The average human body is made up of about 60% water. Some benefits for the body to stay hydrated are: it helps to cushion our bones and joints, lubricates tissues, moistens oxygen and regulates body temperature.

- helps body transport nutrients
- enables digestion and elimination
Just to name a few reasons to hydrate. Signs of dehydration are thirst, fatigue, muscle cramps, anxiety headaches, cravings, dry mouth and dark urine.
Each person is different but a good rule of thumb is to consume half your body weight in ounces; so if you weigh 160 pounds you should consumer 80 ounces of water daily. Besides water and foods high in water content, smoothies, broths, and soup can also have a positive impact on daily fluid intake.
Tips to increase your water intake:
- drink when you have a sensation of thirst
- include drinks containing electrolytes to help improve absorption but be aware some sports drinks are high in sugar which dehydrates that body.
- Sip water throughout the day
- increase water consumption slowly
- drink water at the first sign of tiredness, tension, or difficulty concentrating.
- drink water upon waking
- consume water until you urine is a light yellow color
- set target water intake for the day
- find a water bottle you like; maybe one with a straw
- And be kind to yourself. If you miss your target intake for the day that is ok. Wake up, drink some water and set a new target for the new day ahead.
Water is crucial to keeping you healthy, energized and fluid so be sure to drink your water and stay hydrated.
